How Should You Care For Your Window Film After It Has Been Installed?

Proper Care of Window Film After Installation

After investing in the installation of residential or commercial window film to help reduce overall energy costs and reduce heat build-up in your home or office, Meridian Window Tint wants you to be aware of the simple steps you should take to ensure proper care of your window film.

Less Frequent Cleaning

Window film is less porous that the surface of glass windows. This is good news because it means that window film won't accumulate noticeable dirt or grime as quickly as untreated windows. The chore of cleaning window film is needed less frequently that cleaning ordinary windows.

Simply mix a little mild dishwashing detergent with warm water and apply to a soft rag that is damp with this solution but not soaking wet. Wipe the rag over every square inch of the window tint, then dry off any excess moisture with a clean dry cloth or paper towel. The expense of purchasing commercially produced window cleaners isn't necessary to keep your window film looking like new.

Interior Window Film Maintenance

To keep window film looking like new that has been installed on interior windows, it's a good idea to apply a silicone polish solution to the film on an annual basis. In addition to making the surface of film look lustrous, a silicone polish application can help to prevent burnishing or scratching of the film. Solar Majek and Plexus Plastic Cleaner are two high quality silicone polishes we can recommend for this maintenance step.

Removing Unwanted Tape

To safely and effectively remove adhesive tape that has been applied to the film, peel it away carefully and slowly as though it were taped to regular window glass. For removing any residual adhesive residue from the window film, apply a little bit of mineral spirits or alcohol to a soft clean cloth and rub it off. For more stubborn adhesive residues that remain, use a soft cloth to which acetone or methyl ethyl ketone has been applied to gently rub it off.
